LGBTIQ children and adolescents experience disproportionate levels of bullying. Safe Schools, an Australian anti-bullying program, has recently been a site of public debate, with parents and their imagined concerns being central to the debate. This study investigated how parents construct gender, sexuality, and bullying, in relation to Safe Schools. Utilising Critical Discourse Analysis, we analysed 11 parent interviews and identified four broad discursive themes: heterosexual anxiety, transhysteria, the contested ecology of bullying, and resistance. Many parents feared that children will be harmed mentally and sexually by exposure to the program, and that bullying is an isolated phenomenon. These attitudes serve a social function of maintaining heterosexual and cisgender hegemony, and a psychic function of disavowing the fluid nature of subjectivity. There was also evidence of resistance to these attitudes, with many contending that Safe Schools is necessary, due to bullying being viewed as a social phenomenon informed by homophobia and transphobia. Hostility towards transgender people was notable amongst parents. The discourses identified in this research highlight the strength of current anxieties around children and sexual subjectivity and how they function to undermine the lives of LGBTIQ people, including children who would benefit most from a meaningful implementation of Safe Schools.

Gay parents in stepfamilies are stigmatized by the general public for their sexual orientations and by the gay community and society at large for being gay parents and for being in a stepfamily. A homofobia é o medo, aversão, antipatia, desprezo e preconceito em relação a pessoas homossexuais, bissexuais, travestis, transexuais e transgêneros. Diante do contexto, o objetivo do presente artigo foi identificar as principais causas e consequências da homofobia na escola, e também, conceituar seus principais eixos temáticos. Este estudo utilizou como método a revisão bibliográfica, onde por princípio foi realizada uma busca minuciosa dos principais livros que tratavam da homofobia na escola e dos principais eixos temáticos, e posteriormente, foi realizada a busca de publicações indexadas na plataforma Google Acadêmico, provenientes do ano de 2016 e que possuíssem relação com o tema em questão. O corpus de análise foi composto por 19 artigos, que tiveram seus resumos e conclusões analisados sistematicamente. Eram integralmente brasileiros, redigidos em português e majoritariamente resultantes dos estados de São Paulo (21,05%) e Bahia (21,05%). Foram identificados 10 periódicos com destaque para a revista: FAEEBA, que foi responsável por 30,76% das produções acerca do assunto analisado. E por fim foi possível dividir os resultados em duas categorias temáticas, a primeira disse respeito às causas encontradas pelos pesquisadores e a segunda referia-se às publicações que abordavam as consequências da homofobia no ambiente educacional. A partir do conjunto desta pesquisa foi possível confirmar a existência de causas e consequências para a homofobia no ambiente educacional, deixando clara a necessidade ímpar de mais pesquisa relacionada a esta temática. Além disso, este trabalho proporcionou uma complementação pedagógica em diversidade sexual.
