A MATLAB application for monitoring the operation and power quality of electrical machines

Abstract: Efficient simulation and control tools for electrical machines is an important issue for engineering education and research. This paper presents a MATLAB application to characterize and analyze the electrical-mechanical behaviour of electrical machines. The study is carried out in the laboratory of the University of Almeria (Spain) and has been specifically designed to monitor the operation and power quality of electrical machines. It consists of several test benches that allows different configurations for th… Show more

“…In addition, although the most common network faults are still mostly single events, there is a clear trend towards the combination of sag (usually considered the most common disturbance [32,64,65]) with harmonics or transients. Furthermore, by carefully analyzing the data, the number of papers in which harmonics are located as signal disturbances ( 73) is slightly higher than the number of papers that include sags (71), displacing the last one to second place in most common disturbances.…”

“…For example, MATLAB/Simulink is applied in [4] to simulate transients in linear high-order electrical circuits. Other authors have designed a MATLAB application for monitoring the operation and power quality of electrical machines [5]. In [6] it is proposed the use of MATLAB/Simulink to simulate power quality disturbances in power systems, including three phase faults and switching of large load to simulate voltage sag, removing of large loads from system to simulate voltage swell, three phase nonlinear load to simulate harmonics at the load side, or switching of large capacitor bank to simulate voltage transient at the transmission bus, among others.…”

“…In [15], MATLAB simulations are introduced to help in the assessment of transient state of induction motor. In [16], a MATLAB application is introduced to monitor the performance of electric machines. In [17,18], good models for induction motor are presented then the performance of motor driving a pump load is analyzed and sketched.…”
