A Multiband Proximity-Coupled-Fed Flexible Microstrip Antenna for Wireless Systems

Abstract: A multiband printed microstrip antenna for wireless communications is presented. The antenna is fed by a proximity-coupled microstrip line, and it is printed on a flexible substrate. The antenna has been designed using a general-purpose 3D computer-aided design software (CAD), CST Microwave Studio, and then realized. The comparison between simulated and measured results shows that the proposed antenna can be used for wireless communications for WLAN systems, covering both the WLAN S-band (2.45 GHz) and C-band … Show more

“…A novel proximity-coupled fed microstrip circular patch antenna resonating at a frequency of 3.5 GHz is proposed for 5G applications [10]. Many researchers have also focused their work on developing multiband antennas where radiating element is excited using proximity feeding technique [11,12].…”

“…In addition, fractal structures were implemented to provide wideband characteristics (Rahim et al, 2019). Multi-band technique for wireless applications can be achieved by incorporating slots over structures (Zavosh & Aberle, 1996), fractal geometries (Baliarda, 1998), stubs at various locations (Ali & Biradar, 2017), multi-layered structures (Firdausi & Alaydrus, 2016), reconfigurable structures (Sung, 2014), aperture coupling feed, feeding techniques (Casula et al, 2016), insertion of parasitic elements, electronically reconfiguring the antenna using microelectronic switches (Parchin et al, 2020) or by making defected ground structures (DGS). Multi-band antenna is reported in slotted rectangular patch antenna for wireless applications (Malik & Singh 2019).…”

“…An inkjet printed triple band antenna realized on resin coated paper substrate with overall dimensions of 35 × 40 mm 2 is proposed in [16]. The work in [17] presents a proximity coupled-fed microstrip flexible antenna with overall geometry of 40 × 40 mm 2 and dual band operation. In [18] a flexible antenna for Rogers RT/Duroid 5880 with thickness of 0.127 mm have been reported but it is not multiband.…”
