A newly developed high resolution hot stage and its application to materials characterization

Abstract: Abstract. 2014 This paper describes the newly developed specimen hot stage and its applications. The hot stage is designed for high resolution TEM image observation at high temperatures and EDX analysis at room temperature. A fine metal wire is employed as the heating element of the stage and battery is used as the heating power source. “…The powders were thermally oxidized at 1373 K in air to cover the surface uniformly with an amorphous layer of SiO 2 with 300 nm thickness. The specimens were heated using a heating holder (Kamino & Saka, 1993), which made use of a fine tungsten wire with a diameter of 25 mm as a heating element.
