A Novel Coverage Enhancement Algorithm for Image Sensor Networks

Abstract: The needs of diverse environmental information introduce the multimedia data into wireless sensor networks. The characteristics of most multimedia information, such as great amounts of data and high-quality requirement for network service, positively affect traditional wireless sensor networks, which also derive various new research areas. This paper focuses on the multimedia image sensor networks and proposes FVPTR (fuzzy image recognition and virtual-potential-field-based paired tangent point repulsion) meth… Show more

“…The algorithm was failed to fully consider different influences with different overlapping regions. Paired tangent point repulsion mechanism was utilized to modify the above algorithm with the reduction of nodes' computation, whereas it could not increase the coverage much more owing to merely focusing on the nearest node [6] . The two algorithms mentioned above did not consider the prolongation of network lifetime.…”

“…In [20] the authors proposed a virtual potential field based method considering the directions and movement of sensors for the coverage enhancement. They mainly focused on the multimedia image sensor networks and proposed linearrelation based algorithm (LRBA) and mechanism-based approximate algorithm (MBAA) since the virtual force causes the adjustment of angular magnitude to be a trouble in coverage problem.…”

“…The authors in [32] enhanced the greedy algorithm proposed by [31] to improve the performance of the FA algorithm. Huang et al [33] focused on the multimedia image sensor networks and proposed a virtual potential field-based method with the considerations of sensor direction and movement for the coverage enhancement. The authors in [19] proposed a distributed Voronoi-based self-redeployment algorithm (DVSA) to deal with the enhancement of the overall coverage ratio in the sensing field of a directional sensor network, which consists of mobile and rotational directional sensors.…”
