A novel 19L hybrid multilevel inverter system synthesizes reduced number of switches for hybrid renewable energy applications

Abstract: This paper presents a novel hybrid Multilevel Inverter (MLI) system. This hybrid system consisted of a nine-Level MLI unit that is connected back to back with a developed H-Bridge unit. The combination synthesizes only 10 power switches, two diodes, and four DC supplies to generate an output voltage waveform with 19 steps. The high number of steps in the output voltage helps produce a fine output waveform and more close to the sinusoidal shape with a small amount of THD. Also, it reduces the voltage stress acr… Show more

“…The figure shows that the maximum standing voltage on each switch is not exceeded 17 times Vdc. The TSV value for the proposed D‐type MLI topology has been compared with a set of References 41‐48 to highlight the proposed topology's good features. The recorded values for the TSV parameters have been simulated in the graph given in Figure 4F.…”

“…Similarly, the topology in Hassan et al 24 can produce the same levels with a reduced number of switches. Some other generalized cascaded topologies of MLI with reduced switch count are discussed in the literature 25–30 .…”

“…Multilevel inverters (MLIs) offer superior power quality, greater performance, reliability, and dependability as it is involved in Grid-connected transformerless systems when they replace the traditional converters [ 6 , 7 ]. The higher efficiency, multi-output steps, and less voltage stress are the most prominent features of the multilevel inverters [ 8 , 9 ]. Many MLI architectures are involved in RES to absorb the most available power from the RE and supply it to the grid or local loads based on the customers’ requirements [ 10 ].…”
