A Rare Case of Neglected Rupture of Right Axillary Artery Pseudoaneurysm Mimicking a Soft Tissue Tumor

Abstract: Traumatic lesions of the axillary artery itself are limited to 2.9–9% of major arterial injuries. Pseudoaneurysms represent a pulsating encapsulated hematoma in communication with the lumen of a ruptured vessel. Traumatic pseudoaneurysm of the axillary artery is a rare sequela of injury to the shoulder region. We describe a case of posttraumatic pseudoaneurysm involving the axillary artery, which was initially misdiagnosed as an aggressive soft tissue tumor. The man presented 10 years after an injury from a fa… Show more

“…At present, it is believed that hemodynamic instability is an important factor in enlargement and rupture of pseudoaneurysm. Besides, postoperative infection of peripheral tissues around artery [15], thrombus obstructing the distal artery, tumor progression eroding the blood vessel wall, and the use of high-pressure syringe infusion of drugs during angiography are all other considerable factors [16,17]. In this case, the pseudoaneurysm rupture is closely related to the further aggravation of local tissue infection.…”

“…5 Bizim olgumuzda, pseudoanevrizmanın aksiller arterde olması, damarın anatomik pozisyonu nedeniyle travmaya yatkın olması ile ilişkilendirildi. 7 Pseudoanevrizmada klinik, lokalizasyon ve boyuta bağlı olarak değişiklik gösterebilir. En sık görülen bulgular; ağrı, şişlik, morarma ve doku içine kanamadır.…”
