A specific feature of the diagnosis of primary arterial hypertension in elderly patients

Aim to study the dynamics of brain stem volumetric parameters in women from the early adulthood period to the middle old age according to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data. Material and methods.The material for the study was the MRI data of 94 female patients. The MRI was prescribed to exclude a probable pathology of the central nervous system in these patients. All the subjects gave their consent to participate in the study. The study sample included individuals without pathology of central and peripheral nervous system, with absence of alcohol or drug addiction, with skulls of average shape mesocranes. The cranial index was calculated according to the protruding extreme points on the axial section in 3D reconstruction mode. The subjects were divided into four groups according to selected age periods. The first group consisted of 25 women of the early adulthood (21-35 years); the second group included 25 women of the middle and late adulthood (36-55 years); the third group included 23 early old age women (56-74 years); the fourth group consisted of 21 middle old age women (75-88 years). Results. The brain stem volume in women decreased by 1.21% (t=3.84; p0.01) during the whole period of adulthood and by 0.82% (t=2.32; p0.01) from the late adulthood to early old age. From early old age to middle old age, there was only a tendency for volume to decrease by 0.83% (t=1.75; p0.05). In early adulthood period women, the brain stem volume was 2.8% higher than in middle old age women (t=6.47; p0.01). Conclusion.The results of intravital comparative analysis of the brain stem volume in women of the adulthood period, early and middle old age contribute to the knowledge about its relation to age and sex parameters and can be used in further morphofunctional studies and in clinical practice in gerontology, neurology and rehabilitation.

Variability of histological features and thickness of the dura mater in adults related to sex and age

Aim to conduct a comparative analysis of the structure and thickness of the dura mater between men and women in the first period of adulthood and in old age. Material and methods. We analysed the results of the complex morphological study of the dura mater in 91 deceased (49 male and 42 female) aged of 22 to 32 and 75 to 88 years. The deceased were divided into two groups according to their age. Group I included 49 cases of the first period of adulthood: 26 men and 23 women who died at the age of 22 to 32. Group II consisted of 42 cases of senile age: 23 men and 19 women who died at the age of 75 to 88. The autopsy material was collected around the parietal bones, in the projection of the sagittal suture. Results. The dura mater was represented by dense unformed connective tissue. The collagen fibers in the first period of adulthood are compactly organized, have a clear direction and structure. In the old age there is a pronounced disorder of the fibers. The walls of blood vessels in senile patients are usually thickened. The dura mater thickens with age by 29.2% in men and by 28.2% in women.

Morphological features of the mucous membrane of the isthmus of the fallopian tubes in the elderly and senile women

Aim to determine the age-related morphological features of the isthmus of fallopian tubes of parous elderly and senile women in comparison with women in early adulthood. Material and methods. For the morphological study, 79 parous women were divided into 3 groups: Group I included 26 women of early adulthood (aged from 22 to 35), Group II included 28 elderly women (aged from 57 to 74), Group III included 25 senile women (aged from 75 to 88). The histological, micrometric and statistical methods were used in the study. The preparations were stained with hematoxylin and eosin. The thickness of the mucous membrane of the isthmus of fallopian tubes was measured. Results. The mucous membrane of the isthmus in the old and senile age is characterized by thickened folds located close to each other, forming a narrowing of the uterine tube lumen. From the early adulthood to old age, the thickness of the uterine tube mucosa in the isthmus area was decreasing by 9.1% in the right tube and by 9.2% in the left tube. In the interval from the old age to senile age, the thickness of the right fallopian tube mucosa was decreasing by 4.7% and that of the left fallopian tube by 4.5% (p0.01). There was a tendency for asymmetry in the thickness of the mucous membrane in the isthmus area with predominant parameters in the right fallopian tube in all age groups under the study (p0.05). Conclusion. The results obtained during the study allow us to expand the previously available information on the age-related restructuring of the female reproductive system organs. This information may provide the basis for various kinds of "anti-age" and clinical research.
