A Stake-Out Prototype System Based on GNSS-RTK Technology for Implementing Accurate Vehicle Reliability and Performance Tests

Abstract: There are many car tests regulated by European and international standards and carried out on tracks to assess vehicle performance. The test preparation phase usually consists of placing road cones on the track with a specific configuration defined by the considered standard; this phase is performed by human operators using imprecise and slow methods, mainly due to the large required distances. In this paper, a new geolocation stake-out system based on GNSS RTK technology was realized and tested, supported by … Show more

“…The position of the VUT (X VUT and Y VUT ) is determined when the reference systems are in Cartesian coordinates concerning a coordinate system pre-established before the test. The origin point (0,0) is obtained by the GPS position [18,19], VUT speed (Vl ong, VUT and V lat, VUT ), VUT angular yaw rate ( . ψ VUT ), and angular speed of the VUT steering ( ); Finally, the legislation requires that some of the acquired data be filtered through a 12-pole Butterworth low-pass filter and a cutoff frequency of 10 Hz.…”

“…Moreover, they are used in the implementation works related to the cadastre and the acquisition of data for the national terrain information system, in precise engineering measurements for diagnostic and inventory purposes [38,39]. GNSS geodetic networks are also used in navigation applications and object movement monitoring [40,41]. In addition, there is a possibility of determining the position coordinates with a high accuracy in the event of the occurrence of unfavourable measurement conditions such as terrain obstacles [42,43].…”

“…Another advantage of the RTN technique is that the coordinate positioning accuracy does not decrease with the distance from the reference station so that the results are not inferior to those obtained by the RTK technique [51]. GNSS geodetic networks are primarily used in agriculture and forestry, engineering construction, geodesy and geodynamics [52,53], hydrography and hydrology [54,55], metrology [56], navigation and transport applications [57][58][59], as well as spatial information systems [60,61]. Moreover, work is currently underway to determine the position coordinates with high accuracy in areas with numerous terrain obstacles [62,63].…”
