A statistical model for angle of arrival in indoor multipath propagation

Abstract: AbstTact-Multiple antenna systems are a useful way of overcoming the effects of multipath interference, and can allow more efficient use of spectrum. In order to test the effectiveness of various algorithms such as diversity combining, phased array processing, and adaptive array processing in an indoor environment, a channel model is needed which models both the time and angle of arrival in indoor environments. Some data has been collected indoors and some temporal models have been proposed, but no existing mo… Show more

“…With that determined we can subtract off the effect of the largest α i , namely α i z r (t − τ i ) and continue the process to find the second largest value of α i and the associated delay. This is generally known as the CLEAN algorithm [7]. Below in Fig.…”

“…Many proposed localization methods and algorithms were based on the computation of the time of arrival (TOA) [5][6][7], time differences of arrival (TDOA) [8], direction of arrival (DOA) [9][10][11] and the received signal strength (RSS) [12,13]. Conventional methods based on these four measurements increase in error with multipath propagation because they require LoS conditions between the access points and the mobile stations.…”

“…In literature, most measurements do not perform a deconvolution at all, they simply present results combined for the channel and antenna [8]. Some researchers perform a deconvolution; however ignore the directional dependence of the antenna's impulse response providing results averaged over all directions [8].…”

“…Some researchers perform a deconvolution; however ignore the directional dependence of the antenna's impulse response providing results averaged over all directions [8]. Without the removal of the antenna pattern the measured channel response is inaccurate and provides a statistical concatenation of error in the subsequent channel model.…”
