A study of cytotoxicity and proliferation of Cosmos caudatus Kunth leaf extract in human gingival fibroblast culture

Abstract: Background: Post-extraction dental sockets clinically resolve within a period of 3-4 weeks. However, complete healing and bundling of gingival fibers may require several months. Medication is therefore required to accelerate the healing process. Cosmos caudatus (C. caudatus), a local plant with antioxidant properties and high calcium content, has the potential to promote wound healing while also reportedly capable of strengthening bone. Previous studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of C. caudatus as an … Show more

“…However, that does not mean that gram-negative bacteria's growth in supragingival plaques cannot be inhibited, only in more significant duration and concentration. [24][25][26] The cell viability test, which is a test to measure cell life's ability by calculating the number of living cells, supports the inhibitory impact of lemongrass extract against supragingival plaque bacteria in gingivitis patients. It is exposed to the material and to be tested by Methyl Thiazolyl Tetrazolium (MTT) assay method read using Enzyme-Linked Immunoassay (ELISA) Reader absorbent.…”

“…Cosmos caudatus leaf extract shows impacting SGPT levels in the blood of Wistar rats-induced paracetamol (Maulida et al 2020). C. caudatus leaf extract at a 600 μg/ml concentration increased the proliferation of human gingival fibroblasts culture and is non-toxic activity (Shabrina et al 2018). Susanto et al (2020) stated that C. caudatus at a maximum dose of 7.5 kGy could be preserved using gamma irradiation to avoid changing its anti-cancer properties.…”
