A Study on the Effect of Inlet Air Pollution on the Engine Component Wear and Operation

Abstract: This paper systematically reviews the research progress in the field of the influence of air pollutants in the engine inlet on the accelerated wear of the elements of the association: piston, piston rings, cylinder liner (P-PR-CL), and plain bearing (journal–panel). It was shown at the outset that the primary component of air pollution is road dust. Its main components are dust grains of hard minerals (SiO2, Al2O3), which penetrate the oil film area between two frictionally mating surfaces causing their abrasi… Show more

“…Progressive abrasive wear of the piston-piston ringscylinder assembly is the cause of significant blowing of fresh charge into the crankcase during compression of the medium. This reduces the mass of the charge, decreases the compression pressure, resulting in a decrease in engine power and an increase in specific fuel consumption [23]. In order to reduce frictional losses and wear in the components of a reciprocating internal combustion engine, wearresistant coatings are appropriate, which are applied to the sliding surfaces of piston rings and cylinder faces [24].…”

“…This causes the carburetor system to tend to be more wasteful and produce exhaust emissions. To overcome this, at this time an electronically controlled system or better known as EFI (electronic fuel injection) was developed [2]. In the EFI system, the mixing of fuel and air is regulated by the electronic control unit (ECU), the ECU in a car has the same function as the human brain.…”

“…The rational use of machines and devices allows for extending the intervals between subsequent maintenance services, recreating the technical service life of the facility, and also reducing the current operating costs. The model of the operation process should, on the one hand, reflect the basic technical characteristics of the object consistent with the modeling objective, and on the other hand, it should be used for the rational forecasting of use and maintenance [10][11][12][13].…”
