A Systematic Review of the Survival and Complication Rates of All‐Ceramic Resin‐Bonded Fixed Dental Prostheses

Abstract: Within the limitations of this systematic review, although all-ceramic RBFDPs have a favorable 5-year survival rate, this rate cannot represent the complete success of the treatment, since it may include typical complications such as debonding and fractures. There is an urgent need for long-term clinical studies, especially for well-designed RCTs on all-ceramic RBFDPs.

“…Most of the current clinical studies showed that cantilever design RBFDPs are superior than two retainer design in the anterior region . However, there are limited number of RCTs and CCTs in the literature, so the level of evidence of this result is mainly from cohort studies as mentioned before in the previous review articles …”

However, according to the authors' opinion, the functional occlusion type of the patient is very important for the all-ceramic RBFDPs because in each occlusion type different forces may focus RBFDPs.…”

“…Anterior prostheses, including lateral incisors, had a higher survival rate and zirconia frameworks performed better than those of metal alloys. Another systematic review in 2018 reported similar results and noted that debonding and fractures were the most common complications . In a retrospective examination specifically of lateral incisor agenesis by Garnett et al in 2006 of 59 patients who received resin‐bonded replacements after orthodontic treatment, 41% of 73 prostheses debonded at least once over a median survival time of 59 months.…”
