Academic study programs and education for the profession of sports, sports coach occupation

The topic of the paper is the academic approach to participation and competition in the top rhythmic gymnastics, in Serbia. This cognitive approach is triggered by the need to capture the challenges of sustainable development (professional, organizational, personnel and academic), which are believed to be a solution that could promote competitiveness and the Olympics perspective, further affirm the educational and social significance of this attractive and beneficial sport and implement the knowledge of modern theory and practice in development of rhythmic gymnastics. The sustainability of rhythmic gymnastics in Serbia may be correlated with the basic system principles and its values as a sport and physical activity for a wide range of practicing and competing participants, as well as through academic support of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary knowledge applied to the significance of the rhythmic gymnastics for both the individual and society.

The decade of Serbian water polo

Water polo was originally developed in the British Isles. The colloquial term "aquatic football" was quickly adopted in many countries and their sport systems. With the adoption of the first rules (1929) the development of technique and tactics was intensified, and the philosophy of the game itself deepened. An important development factor was the founding and the work of the International Swimming Federation (FINA, 1908) and its water polo board (1929), as well as the affirmation through the Olympic Games program (Paris, 1900), European (Budapest 1926) and World Championships (Belgrade 1973). Water polo appeared in Serbia at the beginning of the last century, when the students from Sombor who studied in Budapest "transferred" the essence and the appeal of this game to Serbia. The students - the players of Sombor sports society won the first Kingdom of Yugoslavia National Championship in water polo held in Bled (1921). The primacy was quickly obtained by the teams from the sea coast, primarily the "WPC Jug" from Dubrovnik, and from the 1960s also the teams from the continental part of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, primarily Partizan and Mladost. The water polo organization played a significant role in the development of water polo in the SFRY and ensured the conditions for the development of "the Yugoslav school of water polo". The successes of the national team and the clubs during the period of the SFRY, continue in today's Serbia, Montenegro, Croatia. The national independence of the Republic of Serbia (2006) did not affect the national team's results. The teams of the Serbian Water Polo Federation, from 2006 to 2016 have accomplished extraordinary sports results, and today, at the end of 2020, the Serbian senior national team is ranked first on the FINA's list of national teams. This paper addresses the golden decade of Serbian water polo (2006-2016). It aims at analysing the factors considered to have influenced the development of the water polo game, primarily, the players - their talent and hard work, coaches, the efficient national organization, sports officials, science and scientific methods… all of them who together encourage the improvement and development of the water polo game through individual contribution - the Serbian players' ethos.

“…In 54 active wrestling clubs, which are members of the Wrestling Federation of Serbia, 152 sport specialist have been employed (Board of Directors of the Wrestling Federation of Serbia, December 28 th 2016), which certainly is not a small number, but the fact that most of them have other occupations, and perform that function alongside another regular job is a problem. As in some other national sports federations, this one of the biggest reasons of insufficiency of our coaching staff (Radojević, Grbović and Jevtić, 2019), which resulted in the need for a foreign head coach of the national team. One of the obligatory conditions for acquiring and renewing the coaching licence is attending seminars for continual education, which cover the topics including coaching technology, competition analysis, recovery and diet, as well as compulsory education on doping, by which the the WFS accepted completely the recommendation that fighting doping, is founded, primarily, on a preventive level (Mandarić and Delibašić, 2014).…”

Wrestling: Serbian Olympic value

Wrestling in Serbia has a long tradition and has had considerable accomplishments. According to the number of medals won at the Olympic Games, wrestling is the most successful sport in Serbia. The continuity of medal winning at big wrestling competitions was interrupted with the imposition of sanctions to SR Yugoslavia (1992). After the crisis that was conditioned by sport sanctions, a new 'golden age of wrestling' in Serbia started in 2007. Since then wrestlers have won 30 medals in senior category and 17 in pioneer, cadet, junior and young senior categories, at the major international championships. The wrestling club 'Partizan' triumphed in the Champion League. The key factors to the success were young talented wrestlers, development of coaching structure, organization of international competitions, financing the highest results by the state and the national Olympic committee, but also the activity and leadership of a sport official Nenad Lalović. It is natural to expect the continuity of success to be maintained, and one priority in the following period ought to be a construction of a national wrestling training centre, which would enable continuous practice, expansion of the wrestling base, implementation of scientific monitoring methods, formulation and dissemination of training methods.
