Acadêmicos Em Situação De Privação De Liberdade No Sistema Penal Do Pará: O Dilema Diante Da Função Da Prisão Em Ressocializar E Punir

Abstract

The aim of this article was to trace the sociodemographic, academic and penal profile of inmates attending higher education. The method included descriptive research, application of questionnaires. The results reveal a profile of socioeconomic vulnerability whose difficulties range from insufficient time for study activities and others related to the convenience of the Prison System. According to the survey, access to higher education in prisons has taken place in private institutions, mainly in distance learning courses. Considering that prison, in addition to punishing, also has the function of contributing to a better return to society, it is important that the Penal System establish partnerships with Public Universities with affirmative action programs, based on the democratization of education and the perspective of a more dignified recovery for this population.
