Advanced MRI Techniques of the Shoulder Joint: Current Applications in Clinical Practice

Abstract: As such, this article aims to review the current standards for MRI of the shoulder used in routine practice. Furthermore, we will discuss some of the most recent advances in shoulder MRI, with particular emphasis on the applicability of an additional axial 3D T1-weighted FLASH sequence with Dixon-based water-fat separation in routine clinical practice that can be useful in characterizing several commonly encountered pathologic processes of the shoulder joint.

“…The preferred noninvasive method for assessing shoulder joint injuries is a combination of clinical examination and MRI [ 20 ]. MRI is an excellent tool for evaluating bony, cartilaginous, ligamentous, and synovial diseases, as well as trauma, infection, and malignancy [ 21 , 22 ]. Improving the accuracy of diagnosing shoulder abnormalities is highly dependent on the quality of MRI images.…”

“…Second, our results did not compare with other medical approaches, such as CT or MRI. As MRI is increasingly being used for shoulder joints, recent advances in shoulder MRI have provided promising avenues for increasingly complex clinical questions 20 . A comparative study of ultrasound and MRI is needed in the future to validate the performance of ultrasomics.…”

“…In der Primärdiagnostik der Rotatorenmanschette stellt die MRT meist die Methode der Wahl dar. Routineprotokolle umfassen Sequenzen in oblique axialer, sagittaler und koronarer Ebene mit sowohl T1-gewichtetenals auchflüssigkeitssensitiven Sequenzen [19] . Abb.…”
