Age-dependent effect of metabolic phenotypes on carotid atherosclerotic disease in coronary heart disease patients (CORDIOPREV study)

Abstract: Background: Aging is associated with a high risk for cardiovascular disease. The relation of obesity and risk of cardiovascular events appears to be more closely linked to certain clinical or metabolic phenotypes than to obesity itself. Our aim was to establish whether aging influenced the metabolic phenotypes regarding to cardiovascular risk, evaluated by changes in the intima media thickness-common carotid (IMT-CC), in coronary heart disease (CHD) patients. Methods:In this cross-sectional study, 1002 CHD pat… Show more

“…As a marker of central adiposity, measurement of WC is not influenced by limb sarcopenia, which is relevant among older adults with age-related sarcopenia. In addition, older adults with obesity have been recognized as a distinct metabolic phenotype (compared to older adults without obesity) that is associated with higher risks of cardiovascular disease [6]. Hypothetically, WC may have added value in identifying older adults with more adverse phenotypic alterations in cardiovascular structure and function, compared to BMI.…”

“…With the intensi cation of population aging, the incidence rate of atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases (ASCVD) will signi cantly rise [33,34] . Early detection and intervention are effective measures for reducing the incidence and mortality of cardiovascular diseases.…”

“…DNJ exerts antioxidant and antibacterial activities (Tang et al., 2017), and which may be suitable for patients with atherosclerotic events. Atherosclerotic events are tied to the high risk of CHD and its control becomes critical important in CHD therapy (Gutierrez‐Mariscal et al., 2020). Lipid‐lowering therapy is the main medical method for controlling atherosclerotic events (De Luca et al., 2020).…”
