Allyl ether‐modified unsaturated polyesters for UV/air dual‐curable coatings. II: UV and air‐curing behavior

Abstract: ABSTRACT:The photoinduced and peroxide-induced polymerization behavior of dual-curable allyl ether-modified unsaturated polyester (AUPE) and vinyl ether (VE) used as a reactive diluent for dual-curable coating have been studied by infrared spectroscopy (IR). For UV curing systems in N 2 atmosphere, the maleate's conversion and total conversion decrease with the increasing of allyloxy content. However, the rate and of copolymerization and conversion of VE are independent of allyloxy concentration. The copolymer… Show more

“…UV curing of polyurethanes containing both allyloxy and methacrylate groups provided higher conversion of allyloxy in air (80% DBC) than in nitrogen (60% DBC). The order was reversed for methacrylate, which decreased from 75% in nitrogen to 60% in air. The diallyl ethers of dibromoneopentylglycol (DAB) and of dibromobutenediol (DBBD) (Figure ) were used for photo-cross-linking of unsaturated polyester resin initiated by 3-(4-azidophenyl)-1-phenylprop-2-en-1-one/Irgacure 184 in a ratio 15:85. , DAB was not affected by oxygen inhibition, especially when cured in thin layers; however, DBBD was not completely cured (based on reduced König’s hardness). DBBD has two active allyl groups and additional double bonds.…”

“…In order to tackle this problem, several strategies have been developed, such as cationic photopolymerization, [6][7][8][9] dual UV-curable polymerization, [10][11][12] etc. For the free radical photopolymerizations, several methods also have been proposed to circumvent these problems, including high light intensities, low initiator concentrations and use of photobleaching initiators.…”

“…They are applied to enhance thermal consistency and wear on other materials [ 2 ] in coating and copolymers. Reactions to thiol-ene are founded on CH 2 =CH– using initiators and Fenton reactions focus primarily on adjacent CH 2 applying cobalt driers [ 3 , 4 ]. Polymers are also manufactured through the integration of polymerization and copolymer applications in the mechanical industries [ 5 ].…”
