Altered Expression of ADAMTSs and HAPLNs in Preeclamptic Placenta

Abstract: Objective: Preeclampsia (PE) is a pregnancy-specific complication defined by the new onset of hypertension and proteinuria during the second trimester of pregnancy. The pathogenesis of PE remains poorly understood. Revealing the key factors involved in placental dysfunction is critical for the understanding the pathogenesis of PE. The aim of this study was to determine the expression levels of ADAMTSs and their molecular partners, TIMP-3 and HAPLNs in the placental tissues of women with PE. Materials and Metho… Show more

“…Anti‐angiogenic ADAMTS‐1, ‐4 and ‐8 have been identified as the group of proteins responsible for angiogenesis inhibition among ADAMTs (Apte, 2004; Kelwick et al, 2015; Porter et al, 2005; Rodriguez‐Manzaneque et al, 2015). The menstrual cycle, ovulation, pregnancy, implantation and placentation are all regulated by ADAMTS proteinases accordingly ADAMTSs can manage the physiology of pregnancy, angiogenesis and tissue remodelling in the female reproductive system (Gokdemir et al, 2016; Kandemir et al, 2018; Russell et al, 2015). Angiogenic factors also have an essential role in the normal process of oogenesis in female gonads.…”

“…Defects or functional changes in ADAMTS family proteases have been linked to reproductive disorders and pregnancy‐related conditions such as preeclampsia (Russell et al, 2015). Nonetheless, the presence and expression levels of various ADAMTS subtypes, such as ADAMTS‐8, particularly in human placental cell types, are largely unknown (İrtegün Kandemir et al, 2018; Lee et al, 2014). ADAMTSs modulate the female reproductive system's pregnancy physiology, angiogenesis and tissue remodelling.…”
