Ameloblastoma of the anterior mandible

Abstract: Ameloblastoma or adamantinoma is the rarest of the three forms of tumor of the odontogenic type. They are benign, locally aggressive neoplasms arising from ameloblasts, which typically occur at the angle of the mandible, and are often associated with an un-erupted tooth and must, therefore, be differentiated from a dentigerous cyst which will be centered on the crown. When in the maxilla (less common), they are located in the premolar region, and can extend up in the maxillary sinus. Ameloblastoma is reported … Show more

“…It is usually asymptomatic and discovered incidentally on routine radiographs, but it can present with jaw expansion which may lead to root resorption and tooth displacement. 3 It appears on x-ray as a lytic lesion with scalloped margins. 4 Treatment can be either conservative or radical depending on the clinical type, however, surgery is considered the elective treatment of ameloblastoma.…”

“…[ 2 ] Men are involved more than female[ 3 ] and more than 80% of ameloblastomas are in the mandible (mostly angle and ramus). [ 4 ] Clinically, jaw swelling and pain are the most frequent presenting symptoms. [ 5 ] Radiographically, ameloblastoma is included solid (multicystic) and unicystic.…”

“…[ 5 ] Radiographically, ameloblastoma is included solid (multicystic) and unicystic. [ 4 6 7 ] Microscopically, the follicular and plexiform patterns are the most frequent and less common histopathology subtypes include the acanthomatous, granular cell, desmoplastic, and basal cell. [ 5 ] Granular cell ameloblastoma (GCA) is a rare subtype (<3/5%).…”
