Amphiphilic Block‐Graft Copolymers Poly(ethylene glycol)‐b‐(polycarbonates‐g‐palmitate) Prepared via the Combination of Ring‐Opening Polymerization and Click Chemistry

Abstract: Amphiphilic block‐graft copolymers mPEG‐b‐P(DTC‐ADTC‐g‐Pal) were synthesized by ring‐opening polymerization of 2,2‐dimethyltrimethylene carbonate (DTC) and 2,2‐bis(azidomethyl)trimethylene carbonate (ADTC) with poly(ethylene glycol) monomethyl ether (mPEG) as an initiator, followed by the click reaction of propargyl palmitate and the pendant azido groups on the polymer chains. Stable micelle solutions of the amphiphilic block‐graft copolymers could be prepared by adding water to a THF solution of the polymer f… Show more

“…The use of functional APCs with well‐defined chemical compositions and structures for drug‐delivery applications was pioneered by Zhuo, Jing, Hedrick, Yang, Waymouth, Wender, and their colleagues. The ROP of functional cyclic carbonates enables an efficient strategy for exploring the chemical space to identify APC‐based vehicles for optimal drug encapsulation and delivery.…”

“…The diameters of general vesicles and advanced vesicles are 67.9 nm and 71.7 nm, respectively. The statistical results of the sizes from the TEM images are typically lower than the measured values of the sizes by DLS . The main reason is that the DLS analysis is performed in aqueous solution in which the vesicles could swell whereas TEM is carried out under vacuum that will cause the shrink of vesicles.…”

“…The ROP-mediated side chain functional polymers have been extensively investigated as effective conjugation platforms in CuAAC-mediated polymer grafting. Various main chain macromolecules including polymers of cyclic ε-caprolactone [110][111][112][113], trimethylene carbonate [114] and oxazoline [115] monomers were grafted with different polymers, i.e. poly(ethylene oxide), poly(N-isopropylacrylamide), poly(d,l-lactide) and long-chain fatty acids.…”
