The objectives of the study were to investigate the process of English writing from students of undergraduate international class, to describe problems faced by students in writing English, and to find out the factors which inhibit and improve their writing skills. There were six female respondents in international class. The study used documentation from the students’ work, open-ended questionnaire and interview as the instruments for data gathering. All the data were analyzed by using descriptive qualitative approach. The results of this study showed that all students used four stages in the process of English writing: planning, drafting, editing and final revision. The students’ English writing problems covered content, organization, vocabulary, language use and mechanic. The factors which inhibit them in writing English included not being confident in writing English, not mastering grammar and vocabulary, and lack of practice in writing. The aspects which encourage them to write English were due to the demands as international class students, watching English movie, reading English books or journals, listening English songs and having ambition to acquire scholarship overseas.

In the field of K-12 education, the demand for effective coding education is gradually expanding with various coding tools such as Scratch being popularly used as an effective learning environment. However, an answer to the question of what constitutes appropriate computing concepts for children (e.g. elementary school students) has not been fully answered. In this regard, this study worked to develop computational fairy tales (CFT) for coding beginners and applied it to the elementary school classroom environment in Korea. This CFT was developed by extracting the concepts of computer science through literature analysis, developing a plot/episode and creating a story. The final CFT developed is composed of 15 core computational concepts. 152 elementary students participated in the experiment where students read the CFT and solved related problems over two weeks period. We analyzed the effects of the CFT on the acquisition of basic computing concepts and coding attitudes. The results of the study showed that both the score of computing concept comprehension and attitude was enhanced significantly (p<.001). This study demonstrates the positive educational effects of CFTs in fostering understanding of basic computing concepts before students begin to code with algorithms directly.

Students in Indonesia have been cutting classes for some time now and it has become a bad habit. They leave their house toward their educational institutions, either school or college, but in fact, they go somewhere else. The issue was supported by the lack of communication between the schools and parents related to the student attendance. Dealing with the problems mentioned above, it is required to create a Telegram Messenger application for student presence as a solution. Application-based student presence Telegram Messenger was made to ensure that students attend classes, by steps as follow: firstly, students must hand in the ID card to the teacher on duty, then the teacher will tap the card, and finally the data will be recorded and be saved in the database automatically. The data will be saved automatically every day, and then it will be sent personally to their parents who had their mobile phones registered to receive information regarding their children presence at school on the particular date and hour. In addition, this application provides service for the parents to find the information on daily and monthly basis. This application can also be a part of consideration in decision making for the principals by downloading student attendance data in Microsoft Excel file format. The implementation of the applications based on Telegram Messenger for students’ presence at school was expected to be a solution for the problems of student absence due to skipping school. This application has been tested in SMK Unggulan Terpadu PGII Bandung with very satisfying results and the level of student absence was able to be fixed.
