An econometric analysis of some major manufacturing industries

Abstract: Recently, Bhatti and Khan considered various functional forms to see their suitability in terms of efficiency and competency in assessing production process based on agricultural data. This paper reviews some models recently used in the literature and selects the most suitable one for measuring the production process of 21 major manufacturing industries in Bangladesh. In particular, the paper estimates and tests the coefficients of the production inputs for each of the selected manufacturing industries using B… Show more

“…E. Karlsson, J. Liljevern [4], A. Yousefi [5], T. Niebel [6], F. Venturini [7] in their papers came to the conclusion that there is a positive relationship between the use of the Internet, ICT and increased productivity. In addition, research findings, which were covered in the papers of Z. Hossain, M. Ishaq Bhatti, Z. Ali [8], T. Pham, D. Nguyen [9], at the firm level show that ICTs can help increase the efficiency of enterprise management. In the papers [10][11], in analysing and modelling the impact of e-commerce parameters on economic development indicators, the Cobb-Douglas production function was used as an effective tool for determining the relationships between e-commerce and economic growth.…”

“…When the input acts as exogenous variables, the production function is the right choice. Otherwise, Hossain et al [11] and Jono [12] stated that when output acts as an exogenous, the cost function is the right function to use.…”

“…The choice between these functions is usually carried out on the basis of the assumption of exogenous. If the input quantities are used as exogenous variables, the production function is the right choice to estimate, on the contrary, if the output is used as an exogenous variable, the cost function is the right function to estimate [15,16].…”
