An Efficient Caching Scheme for On-Demand Streaming Service on Overlay Networks

Abstract: Recently, peer-to-peer (P2P) overlay networks have become popular and many P2P applications such as file sharing and content distribution have been introduced. Naturally, P2P cooperative caching schemes for streaming were introduced. However, these approaches manifest inefficiency of cache utilization due to inappropriate cache replacement algorithms, and no consideration of dynamic membership changes of peer nodes. In this paper, we investigate an efficient cooperative caching mechanism for VOD streaming serv… Show more

“…By caching portions of the video data, clients can forward the video to other clients in the downstream, lessening the burden on the video server. In our previous work, we proposed an efficient cache replacement scheme [26]. Now, we expand our previous work by introducing extra properties such as multisource cooperative streaming, bandwidth estimation, and segment-based caching policy.…”

“…There have been tremendous works done on different types of cache mechanism for VOD services [38] [39]. We will explore to integrate the suitable cache solution which can provide dynamic cache mechanism for MANET nodes as well as to media forwarders.…”
