An Embedded Internet of Energy Communication Platform for the Future Smart Microgrids Management

Abstract: Microgrids are moving toward electric power systems in a sort of an internet of energy (IoE) where a large number of generators can be connected anywhere. In this regard, to realize the envisioned IoE, information and communication technologies (ICT) are crucial for developing innovative applications and services as well as achieving high levels of efficiency in microgrids. However, due to the variety of ICT, there is not a de facto standard solution to implement IoE platforms. Moreover, standards for the curr… Show more

“…These platforms will be crucial for energy service providers to provide consumers with data services and to use new technologies such as electric vehicle charging to pave the way for maximising the use of renewable energy and decarbonising energy. Digital industrial platforms can also be used to support farmers by combining location data with data from the Internet of Things (IoT) and field sensors, allowing seeds and optimal water use to be adapted to specific fields to ensure efficient productivity (as well as the Internet of Energy (IoE) which is a part of the IoT and includes all electrical devices, sensors and smart meters connected to the Internet or linked within the smart grid) [23,24]. In this way, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the development of a digital industrial platform in which the utilities industry plays a central role in providing sustainable services to consumers.…”

“…This will reduce the uncertainties and disruptions with the prediction. The researchers in [35] implemented a protocol to maximize the WSN by means of a design for a smart home. This design consists of two settings, external and internal, interacting by means of an access point.…”

“…Hence, the developments of existing bio-inspired approaches regarding these new paradigms could substantially improve computing efficiency. For example, an Internet-style solution has been introduced for exploiting the bidirectional transmission of energy and data, namely the Internet of Energy (IoE, also known as Energy Internet) [111][112][113][114]. It takes both the characteristics of the smart grid and IoT.…”

“…Likewise, in [63], the authors proposed a decentralized HEMS where smart appliances communicate with each other to perform scheduling optimization based on a distributed ABC algorithm. In [113], a novel IoE communication platform was introduced to enable peer-to-peer (P2P) communications among microgrids. In [118], the authors reviewed the crucial challenges and concerns for the IoT applications in sustainable energy systems.…”
