An Experimental Study of 3s23pkand 3s3pk+1in the CI I, S I, P I, Si I, and AI I Isoelectronic Sequences

Abstract: New measurements and identifications of the transitions 3s 23pk -3s3p k+1 have been made in the spectra of S IV, K IV-VII, Ca V-VIII, Sc VI-IX, Ti VII-X, V VII-XI, Cr VIII-XI, Mn IX-XI, and Fe X, XI. The energy parameters of the ground configurations have been determined and expressed as functions of Z by semi-empirical formulae in the S I, P I, Si I, and Al I isoelectronic sequences. Predicted wavelengths for some 150 forbidden lines … Show more

“…A fourth such level is expected to radiate near 299 nm, which is very near the long-wavelength end of the detection range of the solar-blind PMT where the quantum efficiency is rather small, so that the contribution of this signal to the overall decay data Smith and Wiese (1973). c Smitt et al (1976). d Mason and Nussbaumer (1977).…”

“…The atomic model included the lowest 143 fine-structure levels, belonging to the 3s 2 3p 3 , 3s3p 4 , 3s 2 3p 2 3d, 3s3p 3 3d, 3p 5 and 3s 2 3p3d 2 configurations. Experimental energies were taken from several sources : Feldman & Doschek (2007), Shirai et al (2000), Sugar et al (1991), Smitt et al (1976), Borges et al (2005) and Fawcett & Hayes (1972). Theoretical energy levels, radiative transition rates, oscillator strengths, and electron-ion collision strengths were calculated using the Flexible Atomic Code (Gu 2003a).…”

“…Experimental energy levels have been taken from Smitt et al (1976) and Shirai et al (2000) but they are available only for the lowest two configurations and for a handful of 3s 2 3p 3 3d levels. Theoretical energy levels, A-values and oscillator strengths, and electron collision strengths have been calculated by using the FAC code.…”

“…Smitt et al (1976) (hereafter S76) and TN94 measured 352.661 Å 352.672 Å respectively. This gives excellent agreement between predicted and observed wavelengths for the 2−6 transition observed by Be76 and TN94 at 369.161, 369.163 Å. S76 measured 369.154 Å, in slight disagreement.…”
