New measurements and identifications of the transitions 3s

-3s3p
k+1 have been made in the spectra of S IV, K IV-VII, Ca V-VIII, Sc VI-IX, Ti VII-X, V VII-XI, Cr VIII-XI, Mn IX-XI, and Fe X, XI. The energy parameters of the ground configurations have been determined and expressed as functions of Z by semi-empirical formulae in the S I, P I, Si I, and Al I isoelectronic sequences. Predicted wavelengths for some 150 forbidden lines of astrophysical interest are tabulated.
This compilation of atomic spectral lines for the 10000 .:t to 40000 .:\ region tahulates 8885 selected lines, belonging to 57 elements, extracted from computer based data records. The tables are divided into three sections. In section I the strong lines in the 10000 A to 25000 A range are listed for 27 elements. Section II is a table of classified and unclassified lines, arranged in order of increasing vacuum wavenumber. Section III consists of vacuum wavenumber tables, with appropriate energy level and J values for the classified lines, listed by element. Detailed explanation of the data and sources used for the compilation are given.
Two different proposals for the identification of the 4d105p6 1S0 level in Xe III are examined using the methods of optical spectroscopy. The proposal by Hertz [Z. Phys. A274, 289 (1975)] is confirmed. The 5p6 1S0 level is located 210 857.55 cm-1 above the Xe III ground state.
A new form of microwave cavity, operating at 2.45 GHz, is described for use with electrodeless discharge tubes. The size and electrical operating conditions of the cavity may be changed readily. The second spectrum of helium, neon and argon has been strongly excited, using a sealed low pressure electrodeless discharge tube, in the new cavity.
