An MDE Approach for Rapid Prototyping and Implementation of Dynamic Reconfigurable Systems

Abstract: This article presents a co-design methodology based on RecoMARTE, an extension to the well-known UML MARTE profile, which is used for the specification and automatic generation of Dynamic and Partially Reconfigurable Systems-on-Chip (DRSoC). This endeavor is part of a larger framework in which Model-Driven Engineering (MDE) techniques are extensively used for modeling and via model transformations, generating executable models, which are exploited by implementation tools to create reconfigurable systems. “…This approach was proposed in the context of static SoC designs [ 11 ] as well as for reconfigurable ones. In [ 12 , 13 ], the authors proposed an approach that has some similarities with ours. This approach is based on the transformation of MARTE models into IP-XACT descriptions to automatically generate reconfigurable systems code.…”

“…In this case, IP-XACT is used as an intermediate model to configure the accelerators for DPR and to automate the system integration. This work was extended in [92] to permit the verification of the platform description at different stages in the development process.…”

“…e final MARTE model is transformed into IP-XACT intermediate description before generating Xilinx XPS specification files. A RecoMARTE-based framework for fast prototyping of DRSoCs is presented in [41]. While the authors focused on both application and architecture modeling before their mapping, the underlying case study only highlights the use of the Deployed stereotype to describe the allocation model.…”
