An Optimal Control Scheme for Load Bus Voltage Regulation and Reactive Power-Sharing in an Islanded Microgrid

Abstract: This paper presents an optimal control scheme for an islanded microgrid (MG), which performs reactive power-sharing and voltage regulation. Two-fold objectives are achieved, i.e., the load estimation strategy, firstly, approximates the MG’s impedance and transmits this information through a communication link. Based on approximated impedance information, an optimal regulator is then constructed to send optimal control commands to respective local power controllers of each distributed generation unit. An optima… Show more

“…An increase/decrease in load may cause power loss/excess. Power restoration operations such as motor slip readjustment, transformer tap changing, and voltage regulation operation are applied to control stability issues [147,148]. In some cases, to overcome the stability issues and load balance anomalies on the distribution side, a virtual operator module that simulates actions and mitigation measures of grid operators is used.…”

“…Various strategies have been used to increase MG stability. The major methods are focused on enhancing control strategies of shading load control concepts and reactive power compensation techniques [25][26][27]. When the larger generator is lost, a backup energy storage supply is inserted for the load shading process.…”
