An Ordovician rift environment for the Memphremagog polymetallic massive sulphide deposit, Appalachian Ophiolite Belt, Quebec

Abstract: The Memphremagog polymetallic massive sulphide deposit occurs at the contact between a pillowed volcanic sequence and a detrital sedimentary sequence consisting principally of shale and greywacke. The deposit, situated about 100 km east of Montréal in the Appalachians of southeastern Quebec, is composed of massive sulphide breccia. Major minerals include pyrrhotite, pyrite, sphalerite, galena, chalcopyrite, and calcite, with minor amounts of arsenopyrite, freibergite ((Cu,Ag,Fe)12Sb4S13), meneghinite (CuPb13Sb… Show more

“…Gudmundite (FeSbS) occurs in some sulphide deposits (Wagner and Jonsson, 2001), Sb deposits (Normand et al, 1996), and gold deposits associated with arsenopyrite (Deschênes et al, 2009a(Deschênes et al, , 2009bDing et al, 2014). In addition, it is associated with ferroan dolomite and pyrrhotite as early impregnations in the host 4 rocks at the margin of veins and in silicified fault zones (Trottier et al, 1991), and occurs mainly with gangue minerals, such as chlorite, quartz, calcite and plagioclase (Minz et al, 2013).…”
