Analysis of constraints and alternative solutions to the implementation of chemical practicums in several high schools in Medan

Abstract: The laboratory is a place to train students' skills in conducting demonstration, experimental and scientific development practices. The provision of complete laboratory tools and materials and good laboratory management will make learning chemistry run optimally, but some high schools still do not meet the standards of facilities and infrastructure in the laboratory. Therefore, the researcher tries to collect the problems and constraints in the implementation of the practicum and find alternative solutions to … Show more

“…This can facilitate the teaching and learning process in practical activities. Practical activities can use natural materials, for example bottles, both glass bottles and plastic cups with a simple experiment (Rahman et al 2020 The development of simple practical tools in natural science learning produces simple practices that proper the eligibility criteria by analyzing the objectives and the material being developed. This proves that research conducted openly and using practical tools and simple materials can produce learning that is efficient and appropriate for students to use and understand (Widayanti and Yuberti, 2018).…”

“…This will affect the skills of students, especially the twelfth-grade students, who will continue their education levels to ones related to practical work in the laboratory (Giammatteo & Obaya, 2018). Moreover, during the current pandemic, students cannot carry out chemistry practicums so that students lack the competence to conduct experiments using chemicals and equipment in the laboratory directly (Rahman et al 2020).…”
