The development of urban rail transit is of great significance to the sustainable development of cities. However, the formulation of public norms of the urban rail transit train operation scheme lacks the corresponding theoretical support, rationality and scientificity. Therefore, based on the research on passenger flow conditions, this paper establishes an optimization model of express train operation and uses a heuristic genetic algorithm to solve it. In addition, this paper takes the Beijing Changping Line as an example to conduct empirical research. Results show that the optimization model established reduces the operation cost of operating enterprises, improves the capacity of urban rail transit, reduces travel time and maintains the full load rate of trains at a more comfortable level. This will improve the attractiveness of urban rail transit and promote benign interaction between operators and passengers. It will also provide a theoretical basis for formulating public norms of transit train operation, make it more scientific and reasonable and promote the development of urban rail transit.

Obtaining the distribution of home and work locations is essential for city planning, as it defines the structure and mobility pattern of a city. With the development of telecommunication networks, mobile network data, having the advantages of large coverage and strong followability, have produced large amounts of information about human activities. Thus, it has become a popular research subject for human position detection. In this study, we proposed a new method to detect home and work locations based on the extraction of focal points in traces, identifying an individual’s working and resting hours, and analyzing the characteristics of city grids using mobile phone cellular signaling data (CSD). At the individual level, we validated the algorithm on ground-truth volunteer data and achieved a small deviation of under 500 and 565 m for home and work location detection 85% of the time. At the aggregate level, we tested it on a city-wide anonymized CSD set and found a high Pearson correlation between our result and the census data of 0.93. Compared to existing studies, this study improved the granularity and location accuracy of home and work location detection, as well as validated the method using both individually labeled ground-truth data and aggregate data for the first time. Applying the algorithm in a city, we captured the population distribution, commuting patterns, and job-housing balance of the city and demonstrated the potential in using mobile network data for urban planning and policy formulation.

As the outcomes of rapid urbanization, the spatial separation of homes and workplaces extends the commuting distance and complicates the commuting demand of residents. To promote urban livability and sustainability, it becomes crucially important to understand the commuting patterns by decomposing and simplifying the diverse commuting demand. In this paper, a methodology framework is proposed to describe the spatial structure of commuting demand in a city using mobile phone data. Four steps are mainly included in the proposed methodology: the preprocessing of mobile phone data, the labeling of individuals and their activity points, the construction of the jobs-housing relationship network, and the network decomposition based on the community detection algorithm. To demonstrate the practical use of the proposed methodologies, a case study is carried out in Shanghai to explore the commuting patterns of Shanghai residents. The result indicates the regions with dense jobs-housing connections and cross-regional commuting demand. The result also finds that the administrative boundaries show a significant effect on the residential commuting behavior and the metro lines on the cross-regional commuting behavior. The results generated by the methodology proposed can be referenced by policymakers to support urban transportation planning and promote urban livability and sustainability.
