Analysis of Science Generic Skills in Animal Respiration Practicum: Is it Improved Through Guided Inquiry-based Learning?

Abstract: Practicum not only advanced skills to use the practicum tools, but also basic skills, known as science generic skills, which emphasize students' ability to understand, identify, and solve presented problems. This study aims to analyze students' activities in animal respiration practicum, investigate their generic science skills after conducting the animal respiration practicum, and describe their responses to guided inquiry-based animal respiration practicum. This study employed the pretest-posttest control gr… Show more

“…Through the Guided inquiry model, students master scientific concepts and are trained to research questions using existing facts and the role of the teacher as a guide. This aligns with Destryani et al (2022) research that students' activities with guided inquiry based on animal respiration practicum significantly improve their generic science skills. Amijaya et al (2018) have argued that the guided inquiry learning model positively influences the learning outcomes and students' critical thinking skills.…”

“…The same thing can also be applied to vocational students in generic science abilities, which can be improved using guided inquiry learning (Yohana et al, 2018). An increase in GSS was also found in applying guided inquiry in animal respiration practicum (Destryani et al, 2022). GSS in students increases because the teacher can create or even provoke students' curiosity with guided inquiry.…”
