Analysis of solvent effects on polyphenols profile, antiproliferative and antioxidant activities of mulberry (Morus alba L.) extracts

Abstract: Summary A systematic study about the solvent effect on the mulberry polyphenol (MP) profile, antioxidant and antiproliferation capacities against human hepatoma HepG2 cells was conducted. Results indicated that MP profiles showed significant differences as a function of solvents including AA/W (acetic acid/water), MeOH/AA/W (methanol/ acetic acid/water), EtOH/AA/W (ethanol/ acetic acid/water) and ME2CO/AA/W (acetone/ acetic acid/water). Among the solvents, EtOH/AA/W took advantage in obtaining MP with the high… Show more

“…The substrate drying was performed in a ventilated incubator, at 40 °C, for 24 h and kept in the dark [ 18 ]. The extraction was realized in Duran bottles (volume 1.00 L; 24 h, at room temperature, stirring 100 rpm) at a concentration of 1% coffee grounds with the solvent: ethanol/water/acetic acid = 50/49.5/0.5 [ 19 ]. Following extraction process, the mixture was filtered (under vacuum) using Whatman filter paper no.…”

“…Additionally, ultrasound‐assisted extraction has been stated as a valuable green alternative procedure to improve solvent extraction of the bioactive compound (Vega Arroy et al., 2017). As in this study, solvent types have an important effect in determining antioxidant properties and change the results obtained (Li et al., 2017; Ng et al., 2020; Yadav et al, 2016). It was determined in this study that the highest yield was obtained with water extracts.…”

“…Recently, researchers have focused on extracting bioactive components from mulberry using SLE, showcasing its potential [106]. Various studies explored the impact of extraction solvent on M. alba fruit polyphenols' profile and their antioxidant properties against human hepatoma HepG2 cells [107]. A separate study investigated the effect of various factors on the yield of M. alba leaf polysaccharides, finding that optimal conditions led to enhanced solubility and yield [63].…”
