Analysis of the application of selected physico-chemical methods in eliminating odor nuisance of municipal facilities

Abstract: Abstract. Operation of municipal management facilities is inseparable from the problem of malodorous compounds emissions to the atmospheric air. In that case odor nuisance is related to the chemical composition of waste, sewage and sludge as well as to the activity of microorganisms whose products of life processes can be those odorous compounds. Significant reduction of odorant emission from many sources can be achieved by optimizing parameters and conditions of processes. However, it is not always possible t… Show more

“…Masking agents are applied on the surface of the odorous waste, atomized into the air near the source of the odors, or on different fabric or paper flags with the aim of overpowering the malodorous odors (Miller et al, 2018; Yoon et al, 2005; Bouzalakos et al, 2004; Sironi & Botta, 2001). There are many commercial products available on the market, but their effectiveness in masking odors is unknown as well as the mechanisms utilized to do so.…”

“…Given the nutrient resources accumulated in sewage sludge, its use in the environment is one of the possible directions to solve the problem. However, direct application of this material is controversial due to, among others, its highly variable composition, odour, and risks for health [4,5].…”
