The most recent Brazilian study [Antunes et al, 2015] included 786 children 2-6 years of age (541 were caries free) and concluded that MMP20 rs1784418 C>T was associated with the presence of at least 1 white spot lesion. The function of MMP20 rs1784418, which is located in the intron of the gene, is unknown but there is the possibility that the variant affects the transcription of MMP20 .…”
