Analysis of the Treatment of Acute Myocardial Infarction Using Ambulance Records in Japanese Cities

Abstract: he usefulness of recanalization therapy that includes thrombolytic therapy and emergency percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) for acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is recognized, 1 and this procedure is widely performed as a primary treatment. Decreases in the case-fatality rates from AMI from approximately 30% to 10% have been reported with this therapy. However, many more institutions that specialize in cardiology and offer these procedures are needed. Average rates of fatality within 28 day… Show more

“…These results suggest that the attributable risk of hypercholesterolaemia for coronary heart disease and the cost‐effectiveness of cholesterol screening in Japan will increase in the future. Furthermore, case fatalities of coronary heart disease in Japan are much lower than in other countries, including most Western countries (10–20% vs. 34–83%) [40–42], which may suggest that the absolute or attributable risk of coronary incidence is greater than that of coronary mortality in the present study.…”

“…However, the rate of fatalities from CHD among the Japanese population is lower than that observed in Western countries [32][33][34] . Heart failure is representative of end-stage CHD; therefore, HF may be registered as the cause of death in patients with CHD who survive a heart attack.…”

“…14,15 These results emphasize the importance of early reperfusion therapy for AMI if percutaneous coronary intervention is always available. 16 In addition, improvements in adjunctive therapy, including prophylactic intraaortic balloon pumping, ancillary medication such as the routine use of aspirin and the combination of coronary angioplasty and thrombolysis if needed, might have also contributed to the improvement in outcome after AMI. 3,17,18 However, assessing those factors was beyond the scope of the present study and may be a limitation to the interpretation of the results.…”
