Analytical method of beat tuning in a slightly asymmetric ring

Abstract: In this research, we propose an analytical method to control the period and the clarity of the beat in a slightly asymmetric ring. The concept of a simple equivalent ring is applied, i.e. a slightly asymmetric ring with known modal data is modeled as an equivalent circular ring with one or multiple point masses, which has the same modal data as that of the original ring. By using the equivalent ring model, the optimal beat tuning is achieved by adding a 2 nd point mass in order to obtain the required period an… Show more

“…Without considering the damage effect, various types of models have been proposed to study the vibration behavior of different structures (e.g., beams and rings) under different working conditions [9,10] showing the interest in structural dynamic modeling and simulations. As the most common damages, cracks and notches and their effects on the vibration of engineering structures have attracted much attention from researchers.…”

“…For the breathing-like beat, a clear beat and proper beat period are desired for the liveliness of the Korean bell sound. Recently, a study on the beat control was carried out in order to improve the beat characteristic condition [2,3]. To identify and control the beat characteristics of the Korean bell, it is inevitably necessary to decompose the mode pair into each mode from the measured signal.…”
