Analytical model to investigate distributions of the thermal stresses in the pad and disk for different temporal profiles of friction power

Abstract: The friction power is a key parameter that largely determines the value and distribution of temperature and corresponding thermal stresses in friction elements of a braking system. In this article, the influence of this parameter on the thermal stresses is under consideration. For this purpose, the exact formula was obtained to determine the normal thermal stresses, arisen due to frictional heating during relative sliding of the pad on the surface of a brake disk, for 10 selected temporal profiles of the speci… Show more

“…Materials that can be used manually with the pseudo-spectral Chebyshev method have a uniform stress of 148.94 MPa inside the disc at a temperature of 25 ℃, and −317.21 MPa on the outside. In addition to all these and some other studies conducted [14][15][16][17][18][19][20] , there are still serious questions in the literature about determining the appropriate choice of materials in this area, and more research is needed. Therefore, thermal elastic stress analysis was performed at a constant temperature in this study.…”

“…Further, the investigated vehicle-trailer combination is not equipped with a braking system (i.e. it does not have an overrun brake) [9,[15][16][17], and therefore, the braking operation has not been considered at all during simulated manoeuvres comprising the present study.…”
