There is an increasing interest in the use of breath analysis for monitoring human physiology and exposure to toxic substances or environmental pollutants.This review focuses on the current status of the sampling procedures, collection devices and sample-enrichment methodologies used for exhaled breath-vapor analysis. We discuss the different parameters affecting each of the above steps, taking into account the requirements for breath analysis in exposure assessments and the need to analyze target compounds at sub-ppbv levels.Finally, we summarize the practical applications of exposure analysis in the past two decades.

This paper presents the optimization of a micro gas preconcentrator based on a micro-channel in porous and non-porous silicon filled with an adequate adsorbent. This micro gas preconcentrator is both applicable in the fields of atmospheric pollution monitoring (Volatil Organic Compounds-VOCs) and explosives detection (nitroaromatic compounds). Different designs of micro-devices and adsorbent materials have been investigated since these two parameters are of importance in the performances of the microdevice. The optimization of the device and its operation were driven by its future application in outdoor environments. Parameters such as the preconcentration factor, cycle time and the influence of the humidity were considered along the optimization process. As a result of this study, a preconcentrator with a total cycle time of 10 minutes and the use of single wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) as adsorbent exhibits a good preconcentration factor for VOCs with a limited influence of the humidity. The benefits of using porous silicon 1 24 25 26 27 28 to modify the gas desorption kinetics are also investigated.

Express diagnostics of biological objects is necessary for operational preliminary assessment of the condition of the patient. A method of recognition of differences between the norm and pathology is based on analysis of multidimensional patterns of the voltamperogram electrochemical test systems in Electronic formats "language", "electronic nose". The basis of such systems is the use of a set (matrix) sensor with completely different characteristics. A. N. Frumkin Institute of Physical Chemistry and Electrochemistry RAS (IPCE) developed a method for multidimensional stripping voltammetry, which allowed you to provide information on biological matter being investigated not as a number, as a response to a single dimension, and in the form of N-dimensional image. Formats are implemented in the process of electrochemical studies of liquid or gaseous phase. Evaluating the closeness of the resulting image object under test with known samples is collected in a database. Examples of express diagnostics of glaucoma are with accordance of the results of the electrochemical research of blood serum.
