Antibacterial polysaccharide-based hydrogel dressing containing plant essential oil for burn wound healing

Abstract: Background Polysaccharide-based hydrogels have been developed for many years to treat burn wounds. Essential oils extracted from aromatic plants generally exhibit superior biological activity, especially antibacterial properties. Studies have shown that antibacterial hydrogels mixed with essential oils have great potential for burn wound healing. This study aimed to develop an antibacterial polysaccharide-based hydrogel with essential oil for burn skin repair. … Show more

“…VEGF presence was observed in high levels during all the stages of burn injury 42 .Potentialize vascular activity as seen after increase in VEGF levels on groups that received McLTP1 may be associated with faster healing. Other findings of literature also showed rapidly healing after increasing VEGF expression 49,50,51 .…”

“…Porous polysaccharide-based hydrogels can be cross-linked with active substances, such as oils extracted from aromatic plants, including terpenoids and terpenes. Essential oils are active against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and have antioxidative capacities [ 48 ].…”

“…In this study, the appearance of the wounds in the four groups of rats was constantly evaluated for 8 days to assess the progress of wound healing. Photographs of the wound may be a crucial indicator of how well the wound is healing [ 50 , 51 ]. By decreasing downtime and accelerating re-epithelialization, MLWSP gel seems to be perfect for wound healing.…”
