“…In this study ethanolic oregano extract inhibited the growth of A. niger and Penicillium cyclopium at a concentration of 2.5 mL/100 mL on a PDA medium, after 17 dana. Özcan and Boyraz (2000) showed that higher concentration of water oregano extract (5 mL/100 mL and 10 mL/100 mL) were needed to inhibit growth of A. parasiticus, Alternaria solani, Botrytis cinerae, F. oxysporum, Macrophomina phaseoli, and Rhizoctina solani on a PDA medium after 7 days at 24 C. On a contrary, in the study of Ş ahin et al (2004) it was found that the methanolic oregano extract did not inhibit growth of Alternaria alternata, A. flavus, Fusarium spp., Penicillium spp., using a disc diffusion method, at a concentration of 300 mg/disc on a PDA medium, after 3 days at 27 C. Numerous investigations showed that oregano essential oils exhibit stronger antifungal activity than oregano extracts. Paster et al (1995) demonstrated the antifungal activity of oregano essential oil at a concentration of 2 and 2.5 mL/L on the mycelium and spores of A. niger, A. flavus, and A. ochraceus.…”
