Antioxidant and α-Glucosidase Inhibitory Activities Guided Isolation and Identification of Components from Mango Seed Kernel

Abstract: In the present study, petroleum ether, dichloromethane, ethyl acetate, and n-butanol fractions of mango seed kernel exhibited different degrees of antioxidant and α-glucosidase inhibitory activity. Thus, quantitative and qualitative analysis of the petroleum ether fraction was conducted by GC-MS. Among identified components, four unsaturated fatty acids had never been reported in natural products before, together with 19 known components. In addition, 17 compounds were isolated and elucidated from other active… Show more

“…In our study, the compound of 9-Octadecenoic acid (Z)-methyl ester was expected to entrap the free radicals so that MDA lowered. In contrast, the increase of MDA levels was in line with oxidative stress in the body 35…”

“…This can be seen from the behavioral test through the FST, where the immobilization time in rats decreased during the FST examination. This occurs because of the involvement of noradrenergic activity 12,35 . Nevertheless, it does not affect the activity of MAO-A and MAO-B 35,38 .…”

“…Oxidative stress is a condition arising due to excessive production of free radicals inside the body that leads to oxidation of biologically important molecules [ 8 ]. Chronic hyperglycemia increases the synthesis of nonmitochondrial and mitochondrial reactive oxygen species, leading to the stimulation of polyol pathway flux, hexosamine pathway flux, protein kinase C (PKC) isoforms, and advanced glycation end-products (AGE) associated with hyperglycemia-induced oxidative damage [ 9 , 10 ]. Similarly, the amplified production of reactive oxygen species has harmful regulation of insulin signaling cascade leading to β -cell dysfunction, mitochondrial dysfunction, decreased insulin gene expression, impaired glucose tolerance, and insulin resistance [ 9 , 11 ].…”
