Antioxidants from Pedicularis longiflora var. tubiformis (Klotzsch) P. C. Tsoong

Abstract: An efficient method for the screening and isolation of potent antioxidants from a tibetan medicinal plant by employing online HPLC-DPPH assay combined HSCCC has been successfully established. Six major constituents: boschnaloside (1), alyssonoside (2), leucosceptoside A (3), isoverbascoside (4), leucosceptoside B (5) and verbascoside (6) were isolated and purified from the water extract by HSCCC using ethyl acetate-nbutanol-water as two-phase solvent system. The results indicated that the combination of the on… Show more

“…The nine two-phase solvent systems listed in Table 3 were selected from literature and tested with the aim to separate the major target compounds in B. globose extract, namely forsythoside B and verbascoside (compounds 12 and 13) [ 15 , 32 , 36 , 37 , 38 , 39 ]. The most suitable KD values to perform the CPC isolation process were obtained with the solvent systems based on ethyl acetate-n-butanol-ethanol-water.…”

“…In fact, Niu et al [164] obtained an IC50 value of 31.16 µM which is higher than ascorbic acid used as positive control (IC50 = 7.81 µM) whereas Georgiev et al [181] an IC50 value of 996 µg/mL which is high in absolute. Indeed, better results were obtained by Lan et al (2018) with an EC50 value of 13.05 µM and by Calis et al [58] with an IC50 value of 61.3 µM.…”

“…Charami et al [84] also obtained good results expressed as percentages of inhibition which were 88.3% and 89.0% after 20 and 60 min, respectively, at the concentration of 0.1 mM whereas acetyl salicylic, at the same concentration and times, showed a percentage of inhibition of 80.6%. Wang et al [110] obtained a SC50 value of 0.294 mM, Heilmann et al [184] an IC50 value of 0.18 µM and Lan et al [115] an EC50 value of 11.26 µM which are all very potent. The results obtained by Huang et al [148] (2021) are also extremely good given the IC50 value of 72.14 µM which is lower than vitamin C (IC50 = 81.83 µM).…”

“…In particular, this compound was found to be the weakest, whereas the most potent was forsythoside B with an IC 50 value of 21 µg/mL. Indeed, Lan et al [ 117 ] obtained an EC 50 value of 13.05 μM, which is comparable to that of ascorbic acid (EC 50 value of 12.29 μM). Lastly, Calis et al [ 60 ] obtained an IC 50 value of 61.3 µM, which is lower than that of dl -α-tocopherol used as a positive control (IC 50 = 75.5 µM); yet there was one phenyl-ethanoid glycosides (myricoside) that is even more potent than this (IC 50 = 46.8 µM).…”

“…Huang et al [ 150 ] obtained an IC 50 value of 72.14 μM, which is lower than vitamin C (IC 50 = 81.83 µM). Lan et al [ 117 ] obtained an EC 50 value of 11.26 μM, which is slightly better than the positive control, ascorbic acid (EC 50 value of 12.29 μM). Indeed, Calis et al [ 60 ] obtained an IC 50 value of 125.4 µM, which is quite higher than that of dl -α-tocopherol, used as a positive control (IC 50 = 75.5 µM).…”
