“…Salicylic acid, sodium nitroprusside and spermidine delay the senescence of owers by inducing the activity of antioxidants and strengthening the antioxidant system of cells and control the reduction of sugar and soluble protein. In con rmation of the results of this study, in relation to the effect of spermidine on the amount of protein and soluble sugar, studies have shown that polyamines increase the amount of photosynthetic pigments and carbohydrates in the plant, and decrease the protein hydrolysis of cut owers of lily, gerbera and carnation and delayed senescence (Amorim et al 2017;Vieira et al 2017). Research has also shown that salicylic acid increases protein levels in plants by preventing the destruction of cell structures and increases carbohydrate (Apostolova et al 2008).…”

“…Salicylic acid can reduce ROS with its antioxidant properties, and on the other hand, by reducing the activity of the lipoxygenase enzyme, it reduces the degradation of membrane lipids (Ershad Langroudi et al 2020). The positive effect of polyamines in reducing ion leakage of hydrogen peroxide and malondialdehyde with their ability to bind to membrane phospholipids and other membrane anion components can be explained by increasing the stability of the plant cell structure and inhibiting the activity of the lipoxygenase enzyme, preventing the lipid destruction of the membrane (Vieira et al 2017). Polyamines also prevent the activity of reactive oxygen species and free radicals with their antioxidant activity and increase the activity of antioxidant enzymes, thus reducing the amount of hydrogen peroxide and malondialdehyde in the cell (Kamiab and Zamanibahramabadi, 2016).…”

“…The quality of flowers in potted plants of gerbera cv. ''Kosak'' was studied by Vieira et al (2017). The results indicated significant effect of Put and Spm, but mean comparison showed that 2mMol L -1 Spm caused the maximum quality of plant gerberas.…”

“…Moreover, decrease in membrane seepage due to polyamine application has also been found to be associated with flower longevity as reported in cut rose flowers (Ghorbani et al, 2018). Polyamine mediated increase in vase life has been also reported in Rosa hybrida, Nicotiana plumbaginifolia and Dianthus caryophyllus (Nisar et al, 2015;Vieira et al, 2017;Karimi et al, 2017). The floral diameter also registered an increase in polyamine treated spikes.…”

“…Generally, ethylene and polyamines have antagonistic roles in relation to flower senescence due to their competition for the common precursor, S-adenosyl methionine (SAM) (Davarynejad et al, 2021). Polyamines are purported as effective anti-senescence chemicals with convincing role in regulation of senescence as observed in Rosa and Gerbera (Vieira et al, 2017;Ghorbani et al, 2018). Polyamines improve vase life by reducing ethylene output, respiratory rate and color fading of petals (Tiburcio et al, 2014;Karimi et al, 2017).…”
