Asteroseismology from multi-monthKeplerphotometry: the evolved Sun-like stars KIC 10273246 and KIC 10920273

Abstract: Context. The evolved main-sequence Sun-like stars KIC 10273246 (F-type) and KIC 10920273 (G-type) were observed with the NASA Kepler satellite for approximately ten months with a duty cycle in excess of 90%. Such continuous and long observations are unprecedented for solar-type stars other than the Sun. Aims. We aimed mainly at extracting estimates of p-mode frequencies -as well as of other individual mode parameters -from the power spectra of the light curves of both stars, thus providing scope for a full sei… Show more

“…Campante et al (2011) andMathur et al (2011) study the low frequency range of the power spectra and estimate rotational periods of 36, 23, and 27 days for C1, C2, and C3, respectively. Adopting these as P ROT constrains the stellar inclination angle i = 20 •+18 −15 for C1, i = 44 •+46 −23 for C2, and i = 25 •+65 −20 for C3.…”

“…They were first detected from the ground (Kjeldsen et al 1995). More recently, with the advent of space missions CoRoT (Baglin et al 2006) and Kepler (Borucki et al 2010), mixed modes were detected in thousands of subgiants (Deheuvels et al 2010;Campante et al 2011) and red giants (Bedding et al 2011;Mosser et al 2011). The measurement of rotational splittings of mixed modes (Beck et al 2012;Deheuvels et al 2012;Mosser et al 2012) has given direct insight into the internal rotation of red giants and their variations with evolution.…”

“…While we have followed the fitting strategy used in previous analyses of single stars (e.g. Campante et al 2011;Mathur et al 2011Mathur et al , 2013Appourchaux et al 2012), extra care was required to ensure a correct fit of the power spectrum. Initial values for the mode frequencies were obtained by scaling the solar p-mode frequencies measured by BiSON (Broomhall et al 2009).…”
