Zusammenfassung: In dem vorliegenden Artikel wurde ein psychoedukativer Kurs für Angehörige von Schlaganfallpatienten entwickelt und in einem Längsschnitt-Kontrollgruppen-Design mit 3 Messzeitpunkten evaluiert. Insgesamt wurden 85 Angehörige untersucht. Als Messinstrumente kamen Selbstratingskalen zu Depression, Angst und körperlichen Beschwerden zum Einsatz. Zusätzlich wurden die globale subjektive Belastung, das Schlaganfall-spezifische Wissen, die Nutzung psychosozialer Entlastungsangebote und der subjektiv erlebte Nutzen des Kurses erhoben. Die Kursteilnehmer zeigten im Gegensatz zur Kontrollgruppe eine signifikante Zunahme des Schlaganfall-spezifischen Wissens und nutzten mehr Entlastungsangebote. Die subjektive Belastung nahm nur bei den Kursteilnehmern im zeitlichen Verlauf ab. Der Nutzen des Kurses wurde als sehr hoch eingeschätzt. In den standardisierten Skalen zum psychischen und körperlichen Befinden konnten in keiner der beiden Gruppen signifikante Veränderungen im zeitlichen Verlauf festgestellt werden. Dies wird u. a. darauf zurückgeführt, dass emotionale Verarbeitungsmuster resistenter gegenüber Veränderungen sind, als Verhaltenskomponenten.

Intergenerational relationships essentially imply the exchange of resources between younger and older persons in the extended family and the society as a whole. From a gerontological perspective, giving help to elderly parents and grandparents, and receiving help from adult (grand)children, typify the central phenomenon of the intergenerational exchange in middle and late adulthood. From a comprehensive life-span developmental perspective, the younger as well as the older adults may be recipients, respectively, providers of intergenerational support. Exchange of support in adult-elderly parent dyads, or between younger and older generations in general, basically implies bi-directionality and reciprocity. This is nicely clarified by the five papers, in this special section, presenting the results of excellent sociological and psychological investigations of different aspects, societal contexts and determinants of the intergenerational transfers, solidarity and support in European families and countries.Three studies are cross-national in nature. Two of them study intergenerational transfers and intergenerational solidarity, respectively (Attias-Donfut et al. 2005;Daatland and Lowenstein 2005). These articles contribute to the formation of a multifaceted view on parent care and elder care in a number of European countries. In what follows, I reflect on three comprehensive sets of variables constituting, respectively, determining parent care in adult children, and care for the elderly in ageing societies: (1) what is given or received: transfers, assistance, help and care, (2) caregiver(s) and care-receiver(s) characteristics, and (3) context variables. Intergenerational transfers: kinds and measuresIntergenerational transfers, solidarity and help (assistance/support) are the concepts used to indicate the flow of giving and receiving resources within the extended family and the society as a whole. Intergenerational transfer is the most generic term, generally used in economic and sociological research. Intergenerational solidarity is frequently used in sociological research and the terms help, support and assistance primarily figure in psychological research. Attias-Donfut et al. (2005) focus on transfers. They contrast timerelated transfers outside the household with financial transfers inside or outside the household. This dichotomy proved to be useful in view of a better understanding of the determinants of the intergenerational transfers in relation to demographic variables in ten European countries. Daatland and Lowenstein (2005) focus on intergenerational family solidarity in urban populations of five countries with diverse family cultures (more individualistic versus more collectivistic)

RESUMOUma das consequências de uma sociedade envelhecida é a crescente necessidade de cuidadores, particularmente cuidadores informais. A investigação sugere que as necessidades de cuidados dos adultos mais velhos estão a tornar-se cada vez mais uma responsabilidade dos filhos adultos. Neste contexto, conceitos como maturidade filial e ansiedade filial são muito uteis pois permitem compreender as transformações que ocorrem na relação pais envelhecidos-filhos adultos. A investigação neste âmbito tem reunido evidências que sugerem a relevância da ansiedade filial para os cuidados filiais, na medida em que desempenha um papel importante na disponibilidade e qualidade do cuidado proporcionado, pois pode, antecipadamente, condicionar a capacidade do cuidador informal para cuidar. O presente estudo tem como objectivos (1) avaliar a ansiedade filial em filhos adultos portugueses de meia-idade e (2) explorar a sua relação com características destes cuidadores informais. Participam no estudo 130 adultos de ambos os sexos, com idades compreendidas entre os 35 e os 64 anos (M = 50.25; DP = 7.97) e com pelo menos um familiar idoso vivo, avaliados com a Escala de Ansiedade Filial. Os resultados sugerem que as mulheres apresentam níveis mais elevados de ansiedade filial, assim como os adultos menos instruídos. Estes resultados vão no mesmo sentido dos da literatura internacional no domínio, o que parece reforçar o papel da ansiedade filial na qualidade das relações filiais na vida adulta, particularmente ao nível dos cuidados filiais na velhice, com fortes implicações para os cuidadores informais e os idosos.Palavras-chave: cuidadores informais; cuidados filiais; ansiedade filial; maturidade filial ABSTRACT Filial relationship and filial care in old age: contributions from filial anxiety One of the consequences of an aging society is the growing need for caregivers, particularly informal caregivers.
