English proficiency has been difficult to achieve by non-English majored learners, yet it is important that they be good at it in order to compete in their work field. This study investigated learners’ perception towards English, and their expectation, perception, and difficulties in ELT classroom. This research was descriptive qualitative research which involved one lecturer and 16 first semester students of a non-English majored tertiary education. The data were obtained through questionnaire and interview. The results pointed out that the learners had positive perception towards English and their ELT classroom. It was expected that English subject be learned in more than one semester and English be used as the dominant medium of instructions. Due to lack of vocabulary and pronunciation, speaking was chosen as the major difficulty by the learners. Keywords: Difficulty, ELT Classroom Perception, Expectation.

The lack of teacher creativity to design teaching and learning activities by applying various teaching methods suitable for the characteristics of the students' subject matter, situation, or condition is one of the problems in learning. This community service aims to support educators in Noemuti District, North Central Timor Regency, in carrying out activities to compile learning tools based on field trip learning methods, carry out learning in the classroom, and write scientific articles. The plans for this activity are training and mentoring strategies. Exercise is related to planning, action, observation and evaluation, and reflection, while mentoring is carried out outside this training activity according to the needs of learners in the field. Participants in this training came from teachers in the Noemuti sub-district, including elementary, junior high, and high school teachers. The material provided in this activity is related to the field trip learning method, the preparation of learning tools based on the steps of the field trip learning method, simulation of teaching and learning activities both in the room and out of the classroom. The results achieved in this service activity where teachers with different educational backgrounds can be guided in preparing learning tools based on field trip learning methods, and implementing them in class, making scientific articles to be published. In addition, although quantitatively, this activity still does not provide maximum results, qualitatively, these teachers are helped by the learning practices carried out by the service team. They can then be used as an alternative teaching model that can be implemented in their schools.

Students at tertiary institutions are required to take general English courses which act as a support for the main courses in the study program. However, observations show that students are still not skilled in using English. Some of the factors that cause this include low motivation, lack of vocabulary, lack of interest in learning, limited time available, and other factors. The purpose of this study is to identify the factors that influence the motivation and interest in learning non-English students. It also aims to evaluate which motivational subfactors have more influence on student learning. This study used descriptive qualitative method. Data was collected through descriptive techniques based on events in the field, with data sources coming from scientific journals and researchers as analyzers and interpreters of research data. The results show that to increase interest and motivation to learn English, comprehensive support from universities or colleges is needed, such as providing adequate resources, using innovative learning methods, introducing English culture, holding extracurricular activities related to English, and providing support from teachers and administrative staff.
