Auction Mechanisms in Cloud/Fog Computing Resource Allocation for Public Blockchain Networks

Abstract: As an emerging decentralized secure data management platform, blockchain has gained much popularity recently. To maintain a canonical state of blockchain data record, proof-ofwork based consensus protocols provide the nodes, referred to as miners, in the network with incentives for confirming new block of transactions through a process of "block mining" by solving a cryptographic puzzle. Under the circumstance of limited local computing resources, e.g., mobile devices, it is natural for rational miners, i.e., … Show more

“…Meanwhile, the study of [104] investigated to disburden blockchain mining tasks from IoT devices to ECNs. In addition, Jiao et al [105] presented an auction model to analyse the trading procedure between cloud/edge services vendors and blockchain miners. Moreover, the work [106] presented an overview on using blockchain for cloud services exchange in a cloud market.…”

“…In 2019, authors of [41] proposed an auction mechanism for offloading computations, such as puzzle solving tasks in PoW, from resource-poor BC miners, such as mobile devices, to the fog or the cloud. This allocation of computing resources to miners was shown to be computationally efficient.…”

“…When the auction-based mechanism is designed, it is important to let the participants act truthfully to ensure system stability [11], [18], [19], [25]- [27]. Previous studies attempted to achieve this objective by enforcing truthfulness to individual participants.…”
