Objective. To evaluate the pattern of internet use and factors that facilitate or dissuade its use among nursing students from a university in Urmia, Iran.Methods. A cross-sectional, descriptive study was conducted with 162 nursing students selected through simple random sampling.Results. The findings indicated that 49.1% of the students used the internet from 15 to 60 min per day. The principal use of the internet was to search for scientific content in the Web. Factors that facilitated internet use were “ease of use” and “Access to experts to solve problems and answer questions”, while the dissuasive factors were “lack of concentration”, “cost of internet services”, and preference for information provided by professors or available directly in textbooks. Internet use by the students was related with the use of this tool in classroom activities and with English fluency.Conclusion. Students have an internet use pattern aimed at self-study that should be strengthened with knowledge of English, assignments online, familiarization with the use of electronic databases, and other strategies to motivate them to use this technology with greater frequency.Descriptors: computers; cross-sectional studies; information technology; information storage and retrieval; Internet; students, nursing.How to cite this article: Shirazi F, Heidari S, Fard SJ, Ghodsbin F. Objective: To evaluate the pros and cons of an online course from medical students' standpoint. Study Design: Cross Sectional study. Setting: At Al-Tibri Medical College and Hospital. Period: January 2020 to May 2020. Material & Methods: After taking ethical approval, 200 students were equally divided into basic medical sciences and clinical sciences based on convenient sampling. The participants, after taken verbal consent, filled a self-designed questionnaire. The data were analyzed through SPSS version 21.0 and presented in the form of frequency and percentage. The Chi-square test was applied, and the level of significance was taken P=<0.05. Results: Both medical and clinical medical science students were well-motivated in learning online through online courses. However, the lack of internet facility, poor IT skills, and improper facilitation by the faculty hindered their progress towards achieving good online education. Conclusion: Improvement in the way online courses are delivered and taught by the faculty is crucial in increasing student motivation towards online learning, but issues such as poor IT skills and lack of internet facility must be addressed to provide an equal form of e-learning for students.

Background:The technological advances and the internet contributed to the development of the e-learning resources. Internet applications do the distribution of digital content to its end users learners simultaneously over wide area. Aims and Objectives: The present study was carried out to find the use and purpose of using internet among the medical students. Material and Methods: A cross-sectional study was done committee in 200 undergraduate medical students and 50 interns after the permission of Institutional Ethics. Questionnaire was validated by experts and administered after receiving due consent. Results: Out of 250, 61.6% were female and 38.4% were male. The average age was 22.01 ± 1.37 years. Nearly 93.6% have access to internet and 79.49% had access at home or hostel. Nearly 48.29% used internet on smartphone. Nearly 97.6% have email address. Students from urban area used internet more frequently than from rural area. About 44.4% rely on internet for medical information. About 90.40% feel the need to use internet during medical studies. The reason for using internet was 92.4% for time-saving and 92.8% for latest knowledge. Females depended more on their friends for internet use than males. In first year, students searched maximally for anatomy and in second year for pharmacology subject. Most common website for searching nonmedical information was Google (56%) and for medical was Wikipedia (51.2%). Nearly 68.40% feel need to use internet in medical curriculum. About 92.8% feel that internet training is necessary and 94.8% feel internet will have positive impact on academic performance. Conclusion: There is urgent need to undertake training for improvement of internet skills in medical undergraduates. This will be helpful to enhance e-learning skills and easy assimilation in medical education.
